The Buckinghamshire village of Aston Clinton lies mid-way between Tring and Aylesbury at the foot of the Chiltern Hills. The Sporting Magazine of 1839 reported a race meeting taking place on Monday 11th March 1839 under the direction of John Thornton. The principal race, the Aston Clinton Sweepstakes, was won Graylass ridden by his owner Mr Harding. This meeting was not repeated in future years.
